Aerial Silks, Suspended in Motion

Aerial silks is a form of circus and dance performed on two long lengths of specialized fabric suspended from a single point overhead. The performer climbs the silks by hand, then wraps the fabric around the body to lock into shapes, poses and slow rotations. The signature moment is the drop: the artist ties a wrap, rises, and releases into a controlled fall that unspools in a heartbeat and stops on a breath. It looks like flight. It reads, to a room full of guests, like something impossible happening a few feet above their heads.

Sutra Productions brings that act to weddings, galas and brand events across Southern California. Our founder, Sutra Winter, has performed aerial for thirteen years and is a nationally recognized aerialist whose credits include performing in Jason Derulo's 2024 release "Bumpa" and headlining productions for clients such as Dinner en Blanc and Unidas Films. Aerial silks are the discipline at the center of that work: the most cinematic, most photographed act in our repertoire.

Why It Is a Showstopper

Most entertainment competes with the conversation in the room. Aerial silks replace it. When a performer ascends over a dance floor or a ceremony aisle, every guest looks up at once, and every phone comes out with them. How It Is Staged

Aerial silks hang from one strong point directly overhead. In most venues we rig from an engineered structural beam, a rated ceiling hard point, or existing truss, all confirmed by a licensed professional. Where there is no safe overhead point, or when you are outdoors, we bring a freestanding aerial rig that stands on its own and needs no ceiling at all. That single option is what lets us perform on a lawn, a beach terrace, a ballroom, a warehouse or a tented reception with equal ease.

Ceiling height shapes the choreography. As a rule of thumb we love roughly sixteen feet or more of clear height for full drops and long lines, but lower ceilings are not a dealbreaker. We simply choreograph to the space, favoring wraps, poses and rotations that read as elegant at any altitude. Indoor and outdoor both work: outdoors we account for wind, footing, sun and lighting so the performance is as safe as it is striking. The look is yours to shape. Costume and silk color are customizable to your palette, from ivory and blush for a wedding to deep jewel tones for a gala or brand colors for an activation. We choreograph to your music, whether that is a licensed track, a live musician, or the song that matters most to you and your partner. The result is not a stock routine dropped into your event. It is a piece built around your room, your colors and your soundtrack.

Silks also pair naturally with the rest of our repertoire. Many clients feature aerial silks alongside our champagne aerial pour during cocktail hour, or weave several acts into one production for a longer program. Aerial silks slot into an event as a set piece rather than a filler. For weddings, the ceremony reveal and the first-dance backdrop are the most requested; the performer moves gently overhead while the couple has their moment below. Cocktail hour is another favorite, an ambient aerial presence that gives arriving guests something to gather beneath. For corporate and nonprofit galas, silks work best as the centerpiece of the program, a single unforgettable number timed to a toast, an award or the reveal of the evening's theme.
